Urban Deltas

Recent Research, annually updated
By Aeres University of Applied Science's students

Deltas are important hubs for human civilisation because they offer fertile lands, abundant groundwater, minerals and fossil fuel reserves. They are transportation hubs, providing easy access to sea and land alike through the connected river networks.

Despite that they cover only 0,5% of the globe, 5% of the human population resides in deltas. Furthermore, 4% of the global gross domestic product and 3% of the world's crop value production are produced in deltas.

Deltas and human activity in deltas are currently at risk of land subsidence, sea level rise, salinisation and other factors. These problems are often in some form human induced. - Lucas Dony

Every year students of Aeres University of Applied Sciences, in the curriculum of Geo Media & Design, learn to create websites from scratch. They design and program their websites around the topic of Urban Deltas. Thus, every year, you will find here the latest in Delta research.
